I can’t believe how quickly this year has gone, and now there is less than a week until the big day itself. I’ve actually really enjoyed getting into the festive spirit this year, which I think is down to the fact that I spent the lead up to Christmas last year living in a hostel and feeling super shit while scrolling through Instagram and seeing everyone’s pretty decorations. So this year I’m embracing the seasonal shenanigans in all their glory, and am loving every second. Here’s five things you absolutely must do before December 25th rolls around.
1. Visit the Christmas markets
Eeep, nothing gets me excited for Christmas like a walk around the markets. Dan and I headed over to Bath’s Christmas Market at the start of December on a very snowy Sunday and really enjoyed wandering around the stalls and trying some of the food samples. It’s definitely a great day out and an alternative to your typical Christmas shopping. I’m looking forward to hopefully visiting more of Cardiff’s Christmas Markets before Christmas Day arrives.
2. A last-minute present shopping spree
I’m nearly all done for Christmas presents now, but there are still a few last minute bits and bobs I want to get and in all honesty, I love leaving it to a mere day or two before Christmas Day to do my quick dash around town. It just really gets me feeling festive. I love the hustle and bustle of the shops, and bumping into people I know who are in similar situations. My mum and I always go for a walk around the shops on Christmas Eve too, and rather enjoy battling with other eager shoppers for the discounted turkeys in M&S.
3. Eat all the food
Nom, nom, NOM. I’ve been good this year, as last year I ate so much I ballooned and rocked a food baby in my slinky party dress, but I am enjoying being a little indulgent. I’m already excited to demolish a Christmas dinner, and can’t wait for our annual Christmas Eve buffet! I’m just trying to keep up with my gym routine and eating as healthily as possible where I can. That being said, I’m really enjoying eating chocolate for breakfast!
4. Christmas get togethers
I’ve already had my works Christmas party, as well as another day of celebrations for two of my work friends’ birthdays, and I still have two parties, lots of catch ups with friends, and Christmas Day to go yet! I really love it though, although I can’t quite cope with the hangovers like I did when I was 18. Is it slightly sad of me to say that I’m looking forward to the quietness of January?! (Sorry!!)
5. Decorating the house
Eep, this year is the first Christmas where I have a little home of my own. I’ll be going back home to my parents’ for Christmas week, but I really enjoyed decorating my flat with my mum and Dan, pinning pink and silver baubles onto my adorable little tree and adding a star that was so big that the tree is very nearly toppled over. Snuggling up on the sofa, with my pretty tree in view, my twinkling lights on and a festive film on the telly = bliss.
How do you get into the festive spirit?
Lots of love. xoxo
