Insta Style #11 | Black and Gold Birthday.

For me, smart casual dress is often a problem. I have so many going out dresses, tops and skirts, co-ords and trousers, and so many day time jeans, blouses and cosy knits, but nothing that works in between. However, last week when I went out for my birthday weekend (read all about my birthday  weekend and what I got up to here) I felt like I finally got smart casual down to a tee, with some skinny jeans, a black crop top and a black kimono draped over the top for a little extra glam.

The saying “I will stop wearing black when they invent a darker colour” couldn’t be more relevant to me. I just love wearing black. It’s so easy to wear, goes with everything and is super slimming and sophisticated too, so opting for a pair of standard black skinnies, a crop top and my strappy heels was simple. The question was what to wear with it, and I soon found just what I was looking for when I delved into my mum’s wardrobe.

Top – River Island (similar) | Jeans – Topshop (shop here) | Kimono – Dorothy Perkins (similar) | Shoes – Boohoo (similar) | Bag – Primark

I chose this gorgeous black and gold kimono. I think my mum bought this from Dorothy Perkins a little while ago and I knew I would have to borrow it as soon as I saw it. I absolutely love how easy it was to wear and how it added something a little exotic to an otherwise plain outfit. I felt like it suited the location we were headed to (a cocktail bar) perfectly and loved how it fell so nicely over the top too. Now that’s what I call super-smart casual 😉

What is your go-to smart casual look?

Lots of love,

Jessie. xoxo

You look lovely! I'm terrible at casual dressing, I'm really trying to make an effort this year to nail something that's casual and still me! Belated happy birthday! xxx

It can definitely be tricky to find outfits that aren't super dressy or super casual. But this look is amazing! The kimono is the perfect finishing touch.
