Santorini Holiday Diary | Part II – Perissa and an Island Boat Trip.

As Autumn begins I am still clinging on to those distant summer memories before we delve into the crisp mornings and don our woolly scarves and chunky boots, and what better way to reminisce about a fantastic few months than by sharing the second part of my Santorini Holiday Diary? Prepare yourselves for beautiful beach views and stunning sunsets, capturing moments of such a wonderful week away with my mam in one of the most beautiful places on Earth. (If you haven’t already you can catch up with Part I here!)

The sunset of dreams.

Similarly to the first half of my week in Santorini, we spent the second half relaxing and having some much needed “chill-time” by the pool and the beach, followed by delicious Greek cuisine in the evenings. (I’m actually surprised I managed to squeeze on the plane after devouring everything in sight all week.) However, we also got to explore some more of the island, both on land and on the sea!

In a meeting with our rep on the first morning of our holiday he explained a little bit about the island and told us that we could hop on a water taxi to go from the resort of Kamari to the neighbouring fishing village of Perissa by boat. I really liked this idea as it meant we could visit a little more of the island in a pretty cool way, so one morning we headed to the beach after breakfast to catch the boat to the next beach.

Catching the water taxi with its cute dog!

The boat was so cute and came with its very own resident dog, who sat on desk basking in the sunlight. We had to climb into the sea and up a ladder to get on board and I loved how the captain was so chilled, drinking a can of beer as he steered the boat through the waves. Travelling by boat meant we got to see just how crystal clear the waters were and the coastline along the way.

The views on our journey across the sea.

Perissa was a really small village with a gorgeous peaceful beach and a really pretty church, although I was turned away as I was wearing a sheer kaftan and wasn’t allowed to go inside, unfortunately. The architecture was so pretty and I loved the bold blue and white buildings.

The beautiful church yard.
The stunning church tower against the bright blue sky.

We spent the day relaxing at the shore line which was lovely. I haven’t had a chance to just sit down and watch the world go by in so long, so it was really nice to just relax. Apart from the beach, church and a few restaurants there wasn’t really that much to do in Perissa, but it was lovely to visit there for the day and to see another part of the island.

The peaceful shoreline of Perissa.
I loved these little signs – they were everywhere in Greece.

As the days passed, we continued to enjoy soaking up the Greek sunshine and the wonderful culture that the island offered. I just loved how “Greek” it was, with delicious cuisine and seriously lovely people. I loved the laid back atmosphere of the island and how people just went about their daily business without a care in the world. There was no rushing, pushing or worrying. Everyone was happy and relaxed.

Out for the evening with my Mam.
The beautiful Kamari sea.

One thing I was really excited about was a boat trip we had booked to do which took us all around the island, visiting the volcanic caldera, having a four course meal and watching the sunset, followed by a fireworks display from the boat for Santorini’s 2015 Volcano Festival. Santorini is made up of volcanic calderas and I love going on excursions and learning more about the island. We caught a bus down a seven hair-pin road to Santorini’s new port at the bottom of a cliff and onto a pirate ship.

Our pirate ship for the boat trip!

We sailed across the ocean towards Kameni which is a tiny island opposite Fira that is built upon old molten lava. The water around the island is full of sulphur, which stained your clothes orange if you swam in it and is really warm. There is only one inhabitant on the island, a man who lives there in a little house with his goat, chickens and dog, and there is also a tiny white church. It is really surreal to think that someone lives there all alone with just the tourists for company, but I bet it’s lovely and peaceful!

The little church on the tiny island – it was so pretty! All around you can see the sulphur in the water.

Stunning views on our boat trip.

We continued our journey around the islands and headed to Thirasia, which is a tiny village on a lone island opposite Oia. Here we ate a four course meal with the other tourists on the trip. I would have taken photos, however, the food wasn’t the best. I left the island feeling absolutely starving, but my mum and I didn’t stop laughing at how hilariously horrendous the four course meal was!

After our (tiny) meal we spent the evening on the sea watching the sunset. It was seriously so amazing and I felt so blessed to be watching it. I felt like it was something that I was so pleased to have experienced.

The gorgeous sunset.

The fireworks were also really pretty and it was so great to be able to experience something so wonderful. It really finished off our time in Santorini with a blast (literally) and it was the perfect end to a fantastic week.

Looking back at these photographs and writing about my time away makes me feel so happy. I had the best time with my mum and we got to do so many things and see so many beautiful parts of a truly stunning island. I feel so grateful that I got to share those experiences and memories with her.

Have you been on holiday this year?

Lots of love,

Jessie. xoxo

I loved staying in Perissa, such a lovely little place! And you must have chosen a bad restaurant on Thirasia, the one I went to was easily the best food of the holiday! Amazing mussels

It's so cute there : ) We had to go to the restaurant provided by the boat trip and it was a set menu made for about 100 of us so we shouldn't really complain. Wish I could've chosen where we ate! xx

I went to Cyprus earlier on in the year and it's quite similar, though I would say that Santorini is a lot more traditional than where I went in Cyprus. However, if you loved Cyprus you would definitely love Greece : ) xx
