This week was an exciting week as I finally lost my MAC virginity! As a beauty blogger I felt I was living in a world of sin having an enormous make-up collection with products ranging from high end Clinique and Estee Lauder to drug store beauties such as Rimmel London, but alas no MAC make-up… until now!
A few weeks ago I won a giveaway on the lovely Vicky’s blog, Beauty Blogging Brunette, which meant I could choose a lip product from MAC. I was so excited! Firstly, Vicky was probably the first blogger I interacted with through social media and she was one of the first people to comment on my blog posts. I absolutely adore her blog and she is such a lovely, kind person. If you haven’t already, you should definitely take a look at her blog as I’m sure you will love it. Secondly, I was finally going to be the proud owner of a MAC lipstick!
I chose the Brave Red Creamsheen Lipstick which is available here, but as a lovely surprise because of a mix up in the mail Vicky also sent over a Candy Yum-Yum Lipstick (available here) which was on my Spring Wishlist, and a gorgeous chromagraphic pencil in the shade Process Magenta.
I love the packaging of MAC make-up. Sleek and sophisticated, the products come in a plain black box with minimal decoration. The product themselves are also black with simply the word MAC placed on them. I love the simplicity and believe this gives the brand a high-end quality. Cluttered and crazy packaging with lots of text is not what MAC opts for. Instead they use straightforward and undecorated packaging which really gives the brand the “edge” in my opinion.
Since I’ve had these items I have not stopped wearing them. The Brave Red is gorgeous and super long-lasting. It come out in a deep red shade and lasts all night which I was very impressed with. I also like that as it is cream sheen it gives a shiny effect to your lips, so it looks like you are wearing a gloss with it too. It is really sophisticated and the perfect day to night transitional lipstick. The Candy Yum-Yum is super bright but I do love it. It looks fab for a night out and will be lovely in the spring/summer to jazz up a cute outfit and with a tan. I love bright lipsticks but if you’re new to wearing lipsticks and want something a little more neutral, this shade is not for you. It’s matte which gives just a vibrant and bold colouring but you can always add a little gloss over the top if you wish. Again this one is really long-lasting and I love it.
The Chromagraphic Pencil is a really cute shade and can be used for lining and defining your eyes and lips. Normally I wear brown, netural or dark eyeshadows on my eyes but I am really looking forward to experimenting more with this eye pencil. However, it’s recommended not to use on the water line as it can cause irritation to eyes (thanks Vicky for pointing that out!) It looks amazing on the lips though. I have tried this with the Candy Yum-Yum shade and they go together really well. The substance is creamy and soft, so as you apply it it doesn’t tug at the skin and goes on smoothly and evenly giving a lovely finish. It provides really bold application and looks lovely. I’m sure it will be a huge favourite of mine in the coming summer months.
I would like to say a huge thank-you to Vicky for her generous gifts. I am seriously in love with them and now want to expand my MAC collection sufficiently. I knew that on receiving the products I would be straight on the website lusting over many more products. I can’t wait to get my hands on some MAC eye make-up now!
Lots of love,
